Come enjoy a much-deserved getaway at a Bedford bed and breakfast. Historic Bedford, Pennsylvania is nestled among the Allegheny Mountains, mid-way between Pittsburgh on the west, Harrisburg on the east, and Washington DC on the south. This is a vibrant town, full of colonial history and the site of Fort Bedford, one of the largest forts built by the British in 1758 during the French and Indian wars. A restored portion of the fort is available for viewing. Another historic site is the Espy House, where President Washington stayed while putting down the Whiskey Rebellion.Visitors to Bedford may enjoy the following attractions: a driving tour of 14 covered bridges, the National Museum of the American Coverlet, Old Bedford Village, a living museum of eighteenth century colonial life, the Fort Bedford Museum, which features a model replica and artifacts of the period. Downtown shopping nearby includes several boutique shops, antique stores and lunchtime eateries. A "must see" is the newly restored Bedford Springs Hotel, due to open in May 2007 after a $100,000,000 restoration effort. The resort will feature a restored Donald Ross golf course, spa, shops and several restaurants for elegant dining. After spending the day, exploring all that the Bedford area has to offer, return to the inviting accommodations of one of our local member inns. With a combination of personalized service and a respect for your privacy, Pennsylvania Mid-State B&B Association members provide lodging that is comfortable and convenient, perfect for your next vacation or weekend getaway. |
