Who's Who Among Innkeepers this Month

Though our January meeting 2012 was one of many hosted at Laurel Ridge B&B in Warriors Mark, we are profiling a Charter member from our beginnings, House on Top of the Hill B&B. Jim and Sharon Au joined the association in its earliest days, hosting guests in their contemporary home in Boalsburg. Jim is a prominenet contractor, building developments throughout the eastern part of the country. Their home truly enjoys a 360 degree panoramic view of Mt. Nittany, Skimont and PSU.

The Aus were one of the few members who were raising a family in those early days, and their sons, Johnnie and Bo enjoyed a mother, always at home when school buses brought them home. They came to help when we decorated the Mid-State Christmas Tree on Campus. Sharon was one of three colleagues to judge a Recipe Contest that the Chatelaine held in the early years. She also had a career of her own at the Country Club nearby. But despite her busy schedule members enjoyed a number of meetings in the house. As the boys grew up and left home, their rooms added to the guestroom total

Sharon's great gift to all of us was her willingness to help with personal needs like transportation for chemo treatments, or visits over Old Tussey Mountain for other medical appointments. Nothing can compare to the loving gratitude we hold for her part in these occasions. She has served on the Board as well, and authored her own cookbook "The Wright Way," her maiden name.

Boalsburg environs is an ideal site for a B&B, just 6 miles from campus and situated on SR45, the Purple Heart Highway. She was also one of the charter members of the group of B&Bs who developed that website featuring 100 Miles of History. The website is no more after the state took it over, but the Events, Museums, Sights and Sites along the way throughout 5 counties are here for her visitors to explore. Come to the House on Top of the Hill and bask in the glow of the lights on Skimont, almost pointing you towards a perfect place to sleep and play.
